Riders From Four States Registered for National Mountain Bike
Competition in Hot Springs March 7 – 8
HOT SPRINGS NATIONAL PARK, Arkansas — Riders from four states have already registered for the USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Race Calendar event on March 7 - 8 at Cedar Glades Park in Hot Springs.
Racers from Arkansas, Missouri, Texas and Tennessee are signed up for the national event, according to Fred Phillips of DLT Event Management of Arkadelphia, which is organizing the competition.
The event is Part of the USA Cycling Ultra Endurance National Race Calendar and will offer a $2,000 prize purse for solo division.
USA Cycling is the governing body for Olympic, amateur and professional mountain bike racing.
"This event is a real plus for Hot Springs," said Charles Moore, chairman of the Hot Springs Advertising and Promotion Commission, which is sponsoring the race. "It gives us a great opportunity to showcase the sports and athletic attractions the area has to offer and attracts national-class athletes and their families to Hot Springs."
The racers will compete on a 10-mile mountain bike track and will work to complete the most number of laps in six hours. The race will have categories for individual riders as well as two- or three-person teams. Additionally, those competing in the solo divisions will be awarded three-deep in gender and age brackets. Team divisions in male, female and co-ed will be awarded three-deep.
A companion event will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2009: The Du It In The Dirt Off-Road Duathlon. This event consists of a two-mile trail run, a 10-mile mountain bike ride and a second two-mile trail run done in succession. This event will have awards based on gender and age brackets.
